AGM – Annual General Meeting
Formal notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting (pdf) of the Law Institute of Victoria Limited will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, 16 November 2011 in the Lecture Theatre, Ground Floor, 470 Bourke Street, Melbourne.
The Annual General Meeting will deal with the ordinary business including:
-
To approve the minutes (pdf) of the preceding Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday 17 November 2010
-
To receive the Annual Report of the Council for the year ending 30 June 2011
-
To receive the accounts of the Law Institute of Victoria Limited for the year ending 30 June 2011
-
To declare the names of persons elected as President, President Elect and Vice President for the 2012 calendar year
-
To declare the names of persons elected as Council members
The Annual General Meeting will also deal with an item of special business which consists of proposed amendments to clauses of the LIV Constitution which pertain to the election procedure for Council members.
The proposed amendments are intended to facilitate greater opportunity for members to participate in the annual election procedure for Council members by:
-
permitting the Council to deliver to members election materials and ballots to members’ electronic mail addresses (email addresses); and
-
enabling member voting via electronic transmission in addition to the current election procedure for Council members through a postal ballot.
Members will be able to opt-in to receive election materials and ballots electronically and vote by electronic transmission. This will result in less reliance on a manual paper based ballot, which carries significant printing, postage, processing costs and will reduce the LIV’s carbon footprint.
The amendments confirm that the introduction of such an electronic delivery and voting is to be made available to members as part of an opt-in phased model commencing in 2012.
Constitution
A copy of the marked up constitution (pdf), noting the proposed amendments, is available for members to review.
The annual report and statutory accounts are available for download on LIV Website from Friday, 14 October 2011.
