How to navigate around the LIV site
Menus
You could use the new menus to find information
Like many websites, the LIV has information arranged into logical sections - if you click on a main menu item such as 'Practising in Victoria' you will see a list of content items expand into a mega menu format.
By clicking on an item within the mega menu you will directly link to a content page within a single click.
Have a casual 'click around'. You might be surprised about what you might find out about the LIV and how much easier it is to find information.
Breadcrumbs
Follow the path
All good websites provide breadcrumb navigation to help you identify where you are within the site and can help you work your way back. Use the breadcrumb feature under the main menu option to help you navigate.
Search
Search options made easy
The LIV provides a site search keyword box at the top right on every page to allow members and visitors to search across the whole website. We also provide an Advance Search option should you want to narrow your search criteria to specific sections. The LIV Bookshop has it’s own search option to help you locate/sort a publication by title, author, price or product code.
In addition, a keyword search box is provided on each main section landing page – Membership, Education & Events, Practising in Victoria, Library, Bookshop, News & Publications, Getting Legal Advice (for the public) and About LIV. This again allows you to easily search a specific section.
Using website analytics to determine what information our members and visitors click on most, the LIV website provides you with a list of the most Popular Topics on the landing page of each main section. This helps you locate our most popular content quickly.
Right Hand Menus
Look to your right…
The LIV homepage has a range of right hand accordion menus to assist you with locating specific information on the LIV website. The menu options range from specific types of audiences (Information for... Legal Practitioners, Students, Employers, Public, Media etc.), to action menus such as Get Involved…, I want to…, Tell me about… and Subscribe me to…
What's more, on each of the content pages you will find links to related information. There is a quick link to all LIV CPD education activities and LIV events, related publications within the LIV bookshop and contact details related to the information you are viewing. All aimed at assisting you with your search for information or your research of a topic – giving you as many resource options as you may need to complete your ‘task’ when visiting the LIV website.
Deep Footer
Top and tail menus
Some of the content on the LIV site is very detailed, which means the content scrolls down the page. We have recognised this and have introduced a deep footer for your convenience. It provides you with links to content related to the main section of the site that you are browsing. It means there is no need to scroll back to the top - all the links are there for you when you have finished reading content on any page. It is part of LIV’s aim to enhance the user experience.
Site Map
It’s all mapped out for you
The LIV offers a comprehensive site map that is updated automatically as information is added to the site. It is very reliable as it will always be up-to-date so that you can locate content and also understand the information structure of the LIV website.
