President's LIJ Column

Caroline Counsel LIV President

Michael Holcroft is President of the Law Institute for the 2012 calendar year.

Mr Holcroft is a commercial lawyer based in Mildura. He is a principal of Holcroft Avery Lawyers, which practises primarily in business and commercial law, property, estates and civil litigation. Mr Holcroft was admitted to practice in Victoria in 1990 and NSW in 1993.

As a lawyer practising on the border of Victoria and NSW, Mr Holcroft has a strong interest in the harmonisation of laws and national profession reform. He will serve as the LIV’s representative on the Law Council of Australia in 2012 and 2013.

His priorities include:

  • Communication of the work of the LIV to inspire and benefit members 
  • Recruiting and retaining lawyers in regional and remote areas
  • Roll out of a succession road show and tools to assist lawyers in selling, merging and handing on their practices
  • Reducing the regulatory burden faced by lawyers
  • Disability Action Plans for the profession
  • Retention of women in the profession
  • Finalisation of the LIV’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

The President represents the profession at key functions including meetings of law associations, deputations with governments and industry bodies and at judicial  and ceremonial events.
