Accredited Specialisation

About Accredited Specialisation

The LIV’s Accredited Specialisation program has operated for over 20 years.  The program has over 850 Accredited Specialist practitioners across 15 areas of Specialisation.
The Specialisation scheme aims to benefit the public and the profession in three ways:

  • Being an Accredited Specialist offers potential clients a reliable means of identifying solicitors with special competence in particular areas of practice, as recognised by their peers and the Law Institute of Victoria.
  • Provides incentive and opportunity for solicitors to attain higher levels of competence in their chosen areas of practice.
  • Encourages improvement in the quality, speed and cost-efficiency of legal services.

Practitioners who are accredited as a specialist are recognised as having an enhanced skill level, as well as substantial involvement in established legal specialty areas. The LIV requires such specialists to demonstrate superior knowledge, experience and proficiency in a particular area of law to ensure that recognition as an accredited specialist is meaningful and reliable.
