The Young Lawyers Section (YLS) is a dynamic group established to enhance the legal skills, knowledge and professional networks of members in the early stages of career development.
Membership of the YLS is free to the following eligible LIV members:
- Practitioners under the age of 36
- Practitioners over the age of 36 with less than six years post admission experience
- Graduates, Trainees and Law Students
Objectives of the YLS:
- Provide practical guidance to new lawyers on how to build a successful legal career
- Provide networking opportunities for new lawyers to meet their peers
- Continued Professional Development (CPD) tailored specifically for new lawyers
- Stimulate interest amongst new lawyers to become involved in the activities of the LIV and the wider community
- Provide a voice for Young Lawyers when commenting on the application of law
- Create a forum for Young Lawyers to participate in law reform

Activities and projects of the section are organised by eight committees. Each committee sets its own agenda and conducts its own activities throughout the year. The eight committees include:

- Professional Development
- Social
- Regional and Suburban Young Lawyers (RSYL)
Committees provide a fantastic opportunity for young lawyers to learn new skills, develop contacts, and to get involved in projects of interest to new practitioners.
YLS members are encouraged to join one of the committees. Apart from the Executive Committee, which meets monthly, all committees meet approximately every six (6) weeks for an hour meeting conducted at lunch time. To find out more about our committees visit Get Involved.
2011 Young Lawyers Annual Report
