The LIV is the professional membership association for Victorian lawyers. Membership provides access to valuable information and support throughout your career and a unique opportunity to connect with other members of the legal profession.
Full and Associate Membership
Qualified lawyers with practising certificates, whether in private practice or in corporate or government sectors can become full practising members of the LIV. Associate membership is available to barristers, academics, trainees, lawyers working interstate and overseas, legal executives and other professionals working in the legal industry.
Student Membership
When you’re just starting out, the LIV can support you as you build your legal career. Student membership offers a range of benefits targeted to the needs of law students.
Two student member categories are available: fee paying (inclusive of LIJ subscription) and free with online access to the LIJ.
Applications for student must be accompanied by proof of enrolment in a university law course. Acceptable proof is a photocopy or print-out of the course enrolment and subjects currently being undertaken.
Practice Sections and Interest Groups
LIV members can expand their professional and personal horizons and contribute to the legal community through their involvement in LIV practice sections and interest groups.
LIV practice sections provide direct access to the experience, analysis, advice and insight of a diversity of legal professionals. Sections review legislations and help develop LIV policy, and they contribute to law reform and wider legal questions including practice and procedure.
LIV interest groups represent networks of legal professionals who share an interest in current and emerging issues that impact the legal sector and community. Membership of an interest group allows you to help shape the future of the profession, while enjoying the opportunity to network with people who share similar interests and points of view.
Membership Categories and Fees
LIV membership fees are fully tax deductible.
New members are welcome at any time. LIV Membership fees are pro-rated during each financial year. For fee information, please contact Member Services staff at members@liv.asn.au.
