Young Lawyers

LIV & Hanover Welfare Services Mooting Competition

Young lawyers are invited to participate in the 2011 Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) & Hanover Welfare Services Mooting Competition.

The Competition has been held for over ten years and provides an invaluable opportunity for the trainees and new lawyers to exercise and improve their advocacy skills. The LIV has been supporting Hanover Welfare Services’ (Hanover) involvement with the mooting competition for over a decade and we are pleased to be bringing this unique opportunity to our members once again.

The two main purposes of the competition are:

  • To assist with the professional development of new lawyers

All team members will be invited to attend an exclusive advocacy training session conducted by the Honourable Professor Hampel QC, Chairman of the Australian Advocacy Institute.  Those who attend can claim 1.5 continuing professional development (CPD) points. This session will be held on Wednesday, 11 May 2011 at the Law Institute of Victoria.

  • To raise funds to help Hanover continue its work with people experiencing homelessness Hanover is a leading welfare agency that has been working in the area of homelessness for over 40 years. Every year Hanover assists approximately 6500 people with accommodation and support services, of which 2500 are children. To date the competition has raised almost $500,000.00 for Hanover’s work in the community.

Details of the Competition are as follows:
