Heading into the downhill slope to Christmas, there are still plenty of things to get involved with at the YLS.
I encourage all of you to consider mentoring and come to an information session on October 6 at the LIV. Mentoring is an important way to develop your career as well as a unique source of support and inspiration - for both mentors and mentees. As young lawyers, we can benefit both from being a mentor as well as being mentored. |

PILCH Law and Social Change Dialogue - 19 October
What do Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher and Banjo Paterson all have in common? They all helped define nations . . . and were all lawyers. Lawyers have been calling for justice in the courts and on the streets for decades, , often against great odds. Some do this using legal tools, working within the legal system. Others go outside these traditional methods or abandon the law altogether. So can the law – and lawyers – have the power to bring about social change, and is it even their role?

Rowing for Lawyers - The Legally MAD Cup
Sunday 28th November
The Legally MAD Cup is a social rowing event for lawyers (or others who work in the legal industry) which has now been held for a number of years. No prior experience is necessary as the event involves 5 weeks of instruction (only one hour a week) followed by a regatta where races are held in the city over a short 500 metre course. It is open to all male, all female or mixed gender crews. It is a great way to develop team bonding in the ultimate team sport and to have fun and get fit all at the same time. The current title holders DLA Phillips Fox are looking for some competition and are throwing down the challenge to other firms to support this event and to enter a crew or two as quickly as possible - as the training sessions start in mid-October.
