On 1 July the Young Lawyers Section launched its new webpage at www.livyounglawyers.asn.au. The page contains information about the YLS, our calendar of events and latest news, the work of our committees and how you can get involved. You'll also find our various publications including previous editions of the Young Lawyers Journal and Lawbytes, as well as a range of other resources designed to assist young lawyers and law students to build and develop their career and find employment. We hope you find it useful. This month also features two of our major events for the year - the Young Lawyers Trivia Night on 21 July and the Grand Final of the LIV Hanover Welfare Services Mooting Competition on 28 July. Make sure you get along. |

Australian Young Lawyers Conference & National Golden Gavel Competition
Friday 16 September, Melbourne
In collaboration with the Law Council of Australia, the LIV invites young lawyers to attend the Australian Young Lawyers Conference and National Golden Gavel competition. The conference aims to educate and up-skill young lawyers by providing training in necessary skills to assist with developing your career. Attendees will then be entertained by the best orators from across Australia as they compete for the title of National Golden Gavel champion.

LIV & Hanover Welfare Services Mooting Competition Grand Final

The LIV and Hanover Welfare Services are pleased to announce that Monahan + Rowell Lawyers and Corrs Chambers Westgarth have won their way into the 2011 Mooting Competition Grand Final. Support the teams as they battle it out at the Grand Final. Spectators are welcome!

YLS Law Reform Committee Sentencing Bulletin
Both the former and current governments have rallied for changes to sentencing regimes. Some of those reforms came into operation on 1 May 2011 and include the abolition of suspended sentences and mandatory imprisonment for certain crimes. Victorian Women Lawyers
Warrnambool CPD/CLE and Networking Event Friday 22 July 2011, 5:30pm Victorian Women Lawyers in conjunction with the Women Barristers Association, invites all women lawyers and law students based in the Warrnambool and surrounding areas to a special CPD/CLE event in Warrnambool. Deakin University will host the presentation of two CPD/CLE units on Ethics and Professional Skills, to be followed by a local networking dinner.

Legal Policy Adviser - Cancer Council Victoria
Cancer Council Victoria are seeking a Legal Policy Advisor to join the Obesity Policy Coalition. Reporting to the OPC's Senior Policy Adviser, your role is to plan, manage and undertake the legal and regulatory work of the OPC. You will undertake research and provide advice on legal, regulatory and policy issues relevant to obesity prevention; propose and advocate for legal and regulatory interventions to promote obesity prevention; and liaise on these issues with key government and non-government stakeholders.
