Last month the Young Lawyers Section announced the arrival of its new Facebook page! Visit livyounglawyers on Facebook and like our page to keep up to date with what's happening in the YLS. You'll be able to follow our status updates, find out the latest news and information and view photos from our events. We'd also love to hear from you, so jump on and post a comment.
September is also a huge month for the Section as we prepare to host the Australian Young Lawyers Conference on Friday 16 September. This will be a great event and will culminate with the running of the National Golden Gavel Competition. Tickets are selling fast so make sure you don't miss out.
Also, don't miss our law reform event "Keeping Your Privates Private" on Thursday 8 September. This seminar will focus on rights to privacy online at work, in public and at home, and will feature some of the state's leading experts as speakers. |

National Golden Gavel Competition
16 September 2011
YLS members are invited to submit topics for possible use at the National Golden Gavel competition this month. Past topics have included 10 things you should never twitter and Marry me! I'm a lawyer. The finalists from each state and territory will go head to head in an attempt to be crowned national winner. Members are encouraged to send their topic suggestions to younglaw@liv.asn.au

Contributions invited from YLS members
YLS members are invited to submit contributions for the Young Lawyers Journal (YLJ) Summer Edition 2011 along the following themes:
- what to do with your summer holidays;
- legal and non-legal volunteering opportunities;
- lawyer by day, circus performer by night...and other cool hobbies lawyers engage in;
- building professional and business skills;
- increasing broader knowledge of interesting legal developments;
- any additional pieces of interest to young lawyers in Victoria; and
- inspirational interviews.
Final contributions must be sent to younglaw no later than COB Friday, 16 September 2011. If you would like further information about joining the Editorial Committee and contributing to the YLJ, please contact Georgette Apostolopoulos and Michelle Batsas via younglaw@liv.asn.au.

Corporate Law Committee
The CLS would love to have more young lawyers involved in its Corporate Law work. Why not come along to one of our Committee meetings and find out what this Committee is all about. It could be a great way to develop your submission and policy writing skills in corporate law and meet other professionals who have already chosen to specialise in this field. Calling Young Migration Lawyers
The LIV's Migration Law Committee is a dynamic and productive committee which advocates improvements to Australia's migration system through the preparation of submissions to government, meetings with government representatives and events. The Committee seeks membership applications from enthusiastic young migration lawyers. Applicants should primarily practice migration law and be able to regularly attend meetings and participate in committee business. Committee meetings occur approximately every six weeks on Tuesdays from 1-2pm. Please email your expression of interest to jstrickett@liv.asn.au.

Australian Young Lawyers Conference
Friday 16 September, 8.30am - 4.30pm
The conference provided training in necessary skills to assist with developing your career. The training and coaching provided at this conference will ensure young lawyers are a greater asset to their firms. Sessions include Advocacy, Ethics, Taming your email (and other business tips), Personal Sustainability and Networking. All conference registrants will attend a networking lunch and also receive free entry into the National Golden Gavel competition where they will be entertained by the best orators from across Australia as they compete for the title of National Golden Gavel winner.
