YL President This is the last edition of Lawbytes for 2011 and looking back, it's been an exciting year for the Young Lawyers Section. Our calendar of events has been packed with programs and events to help young lawyers and law students build their career, make a difference in the community and have fun. A huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to the YLS this year.

With a new year on the horizon, there's a lot to look forward to. All the best to new President Amanda Storey from Piper Alderman and the recently elected YLS Executive Committee for 2012. It promises to be another great year for the Section.

I'd like to wish all members the very best with their career pursuits and encourage you to connect with the YLS in 2012. Have a great Christmas and new year!

2011 LIV Legal Awards
Rising Star of the Year
LIV Young Lawyers would like to congratulate Kim McFarlane on winning the 2011 Rising Star of the Year Award. Kim has established a thriving and successful young lawyers group in Gippsland and increased retention of lawyers in the area by becoming the main contact for both young and young at heart lawyers. It appears the quality of young lawyers in the region and their positive retention can be largely attributed to Kim's work. Congratulations Kim.

The YLS AGM was held on Friday, 26 November. Members are invited to download a copy of the Section's Annual Report.

Young Lawyers Lawn Bowls Fundraiser

At the start of each year the YLS hosts a fundraising event to raise funds for a chosen community charity. This event also kicks of the YLS calendar of activities for the year. In 2012 the Community Issues Committee is again hosting the lawn bowls event in Flagstaff Gardens to raise money for Tarwirri.

Following on from the success of the 2011 Young Lawyers Health & Wellbeing Series the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) will again host the series in 2012. The 2011 series consisted of three information sessions focusing on the health and wellbeing of new lawyers, covering Fitness & Nutrition, Understanding and preventing depression and Managing Stress & Anxiety. The 2012 series will consist of three information sessions focussing on the improved health and wellbeing of YLS members.
