Admission Requirements
The following is a step-by-step example pertaining to local applicants only. Interstate and overseas applicants should refer to Divisions 2 and 3 of Part 5 of the Rules.
Three months prior to intended admission date
Applicants seeking to apply for admission must file their notices of intention 3 months prior to the intended date of admission (see Rule 5.01).
21 Days prior to applying for admission
The trainee needs to submit documents in support of admission to the Board of Examiners at least 21 days prior to when the applicant intends to apply for admission. (See Rule 5.02).
These supporting documents include:
- Schedule 6 Affidavit - to be executed by the Trainee’s Supervisor attesting to various things including that the training plan was followed (or if departed from in any way provides the particulars thereof) and that he/she considers that the trainee is a fit and proper person to be admitted to practice (see Rule 5.02(1)(a)(i));
- PLT Certificates - Any certificates from any relevant approved PLT providers or other providers (see Rule 5.02(1)(a)(ii));
- Schedule 7 Affidavit - to be executed by each person who acted as a supervisor of the trainee throughout the course of the 12 month period;
- Schedule 8 Affidavit - to be executed by the trainee attesting that they are the person applying for admission and annexing (as required) certificates of completion of studies (if the applicant has completed an approved PLT course, then the certificate should be annexed); a police report on the applicant’s criminal record (if any) by the Chief Commissioner of Police that is no more than 6 months old; a report by the approved academic institution (ie University) and any PLT provider as to any disciplinary action arising out of the applicant’s conduct in attaining the qualification (also no more than 6 months old); [note that both the police report and the academic conduct report must be sent by registered post by the organisation/institution directly to the BOE and not via the trainee.]; and
- Schedule 9 Affidavit - two affidavits as to character in the form set out in Schedule 9.
