Career Change
Changing your career can take place at any time. It could be a sea change, i.e. a change of location to suit your lifestyle, or a change in the nature of your work. It could even involve changing professions. It is your career, so it is up to you to assess what type of change you are looking for.
There are four main things to consider when beginning your research:
- How much money do you need to maintain your lifestyle? Sometimes changing professions might require you to take a pay cut.
- What work environment do you operate best in? You now have some work experience so you should have an idea about what conditions you work best under. Perhaps you prefer to work in a small team with lots of autonomy, or a firm with a little bureaucracy so that jobs can turn around fast.
- What industry do you want to work in? Retail, fast-moving goods, service sector, aid organisations, government etc.
- What personal goals do you have that may affect your choice of work environments or industry? These could be driven by ethics or ambition.
