How do I find a lawyer?
Finding a lawyer can be a daunting task but the LIV Find a Lawyer - Legal Referral Service can help. The LIV provides referrals to member solicitors throughout Victoria, practising in the relevant area of law. In addition, our find a lawyer service is available via your smart phone.
Free Enquiry Interview
All law firms included in the Legal Referral Service provide a thirty minute enquiry interview free of charge. You can use this interview to determine with the solicitor the nature of the legal issue, discuss the available options and receive an estimate of costs to proceed with the matter. If you request the solicitor to undertake any legal work on your behalf (e.g. reading contracts, writing letters etc) the solicitor’s normal fees will apply. Please be sure to discuss these costs before any work is completed on your behalf.
Online and Telephone Services
The Legal Referral telephone service operates from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Please call 03 9607 9550. The online Legal Referral Service is available 24 hours a day via the LIV website. When using the online service you must have access to a printer in order to print the referral letter.
Users of the Legal Referral Service will receive a referral letter listing up to 3 firms practising in the relevant area of law. You may then make an appointment with one of those firms for a free thirty minute enquiry interview. You must take the letter with you to the interview. The Legal Referral Service will only provide one referral letter per legal matter.

Please note that the Legal Referral Service does not provide legal advice. This can only be obtained by obtaining a referral to a member solicitor.
