Film Screening - FULLY BOOKED!
Followed by an interactive panel discussion
What pushes people to leave home?
What do they leave behind? What do they fear?
Why did they choose this path?
And how should Australia respond?
Melbourne Barrister, Jessie Taylor and Ali Reza Sadiqi met with 250 asylum seekers in jails, detention centres and hostels and through candid interviews and hidden camera footage, the story of the 'refugee' is told.
Join us for the screening of this powerful and confronting documentary that looks at the circumstances and decisions that lead someone to become a ‘boat person’.
‘Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’ will be followed by an interactive panel discussion focusing on possible policy responses to the issues and challenges faced by asylum seekers living in our region.
Panellists
• Dr Savitri Taylor, Associate Professor and Director of Research, School of Law, La Trobe University
• Jessie Taylor, Barrister
• Paul Power, CEO, Refugee Council of Australia
$10 from each ticket purchased will be donated to the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre
