He will also address proposed reforms to expedited arbitration rules and the investor-State dispute system.

Further Details

  • Full Description

Beginning in February 2015, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group II developed the recently signed Singapore Convention on enforcement of international mediated settlement agreements. Working Group II now has taken up preparation of rules for expedited arbitration proceedings for inclusion in UNCITRAL’s Model Rules for Arbitration. Over the past two years, Working Group III has engaged in contentious discussions regarding possible reforms to the investor-State dispute system.

A representative and board member of the Forum for International Conciliation and Arbitration (FICA), Dr Alan M. Anderson will provide an insider’s view on the work of Working Groups II and III.  Dr Anderson has attended and participated in the discussions and negotiations in these Working Groups since 2015. He will give insights into the Singapore Convention signed on 8 July 2019, and inform you of some of the issues and prospects for that convention’s future.

Dr Anderson will also address the ongoing discussions relating to expedited arbitration rules and the controversial topic of reform of the investor-State dispute system, and where those efforts appear headed.

You will have an opportunity to bring questions to Dr Anderson during a Q&A session following his presentation. This will be followed by a drinks reception.
