Australia is on the cusp of significant reforms to insolvency with the Federal Government announcing a number of permanent and temporary measures to be introduced from January 2021 to help deal with the many businesses seeking to restructure or liquidate as a result of COVID-19.

The reforms, which are designed to assist companies with creditors totalling less than $1m to restructure or liquidate, have been described by the Australian Government as the most significant reforms to insolvency in almost 30 years. While the legislation which will implement the reforms has not yet been released, the Treasurer has outlined the new measures which we will be discussing in detail with our expert presenters.

In this interactive session, our expert presenters will bring their extensive practical experience to explain the upcoming changes as understood currently, offer insights and unpack what these reforms mean for you and your practice when advising small business clients.

    Topics include:

    • Overview of the reforms as they stand currently
    • The proposed new restructuring process
    • What is the ‘debtor in possession model’?
