Most outstanding commercial deal by an individual or team. Open to all individual partners, principals or teams with completed or announced deals/transactions in the past 12 months.

New lawyers demonstrating remarkable leadership and achievements. Open to lawyers with up to six years' post qualification experience.
Government Lawyer of the Year
Best contribution by a lawyer toward public sector success. Open to lawyers who work in a government organisation.
In-house Counsel of the Year Award
Best contribution by a lawyer toward corporate success. Open to general counsel, in-house counsel or members of an in-house counsel team. The size of the team or the size of the organisation will not be a factor or impediment for those nominating or judging the award.
Open to all firms in Victoria, recognising excellence in applying new technology.
Law Firm of the Year (three categories)
Boutique Law Firm
Open to firms with five principals or fewer in Victoria.
Medium Law Firm
Open to firms with 6–19 principals in Victoria.
Large Law Firm of the Year – Sponsored by PEXA
Open to firms with 20 principals or more in Victoria.
Law Student of the Year
Most outstanding legal contribution and academic performance by a law student. Open to all students studying a Bachelor of Laws (graduate entry) or Juris Doctor (JD) which allows that student to be eligible for admission to practise as an Australian lawyer. Eligibility would cover undergraduate students studying LL.B and postgraduate students studying a Bachelor of Laws (graduate entry) or Juris Doctor (JD).
Legal Reporting Award
Open to journalists and/or those in the media that demonstrate outstanding commitment to newspaper journalism, court reporting, radio reporting, television reporting or online reporting.
Mentor of the Year
Open to all lawyers who have mentored, guided, supported and encouraged the development of other lawyers.
Regional Lawyer of the Year
Open to all lawyers practising in regional Victoria.
Suburban Lawyer of the Year
Open to all lawyers practising in suburban Victoria.
Certificates of Service
Nominations for the Certificates of Service are sought from various LIV sections and committees, as well as the suburban and country law associations.
Paul Baker Award
The Paul Baker Award is in memory of former LIV Administrative Law and Human Rights Section Chair Paul Baker, a lawyer who dedicated countless hours, effort and passion to LIV Committee work and other welfare agencies in pursuit of social justice and human rights. Paul was a brave and passionate lawyer working in migration, refugee and gender equality who had a strong determination to ensure that people could articulate and exercise their rights.
Rogers Legal Writing Award
The Rogers Legal Writing Award commemorates Peter Rogers’ contribution to the legal profession and is awarded to the most outstanding contribution to the Law Institute Journal (LIJ) for the previous calendar year. The winning contribution is selected by the LIV’s Editorial Committee and LIJ editor.
President’s Honorary Award
The President’s Honorary Award is awarded at the LIV president’s discretion each year. The recipient(s) will possess extraordinary passion for the law that has translated into an outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the general community.
Honorary Life Member
If, in the Council’s opinion, a member has made over a period of years a significant contribution to the Company, or to the LIV, or to the community, the Council may admit the member as an honorary life member of the Company. Nominations are made by the Law Institute of Victoria Awards Committee.
