  • Full Description

The Family Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia (the Courts) recently established a new specialist list in each Court, known as the National Arbitration List. The Courts support the wider use of arbitration in family property matters as a quicker and more affordable alternative to continuing to trial.

Family lawyers have an obligation to discuss dispute resolution options with their clients. Our speakers will provide an overview on the arbitration process, discuss key features of the Arbitration List and provide insights on how you can best assist your clients using real-life experiences of recently conducted online arbitrations, as we start to operate in the ‘new normal’.

    Key topics will include:

    • what is the process
    • what training arbitrators have
    • options if there was an issue with the process
    • kinds of cases that may or may not benefit from arbitration
    • case studies, or real-life experiences with arbitration.
  • Presenters

Justice Joshua Wilson, Family Court of Australia
Judge Joe Harman, Federal Circuit Court of Australia
Martin Bartfeld, AM QC, Victorian Bar
Andrew Davies, Partner, O’Sullivan Davies Lawyers. Chair, Australian Institute of Family Law Mediators and Arbitrators
