The human stress response is one of the most powerful drivers of our health and behaviours. The effects of stress are sometimes surprising and can be overwhelming.

Megan Fulford, Wellbeing Manager at the LIV, will draw on over 20 years’ experience working as a Psychologist with emergency service personnel, including Victoria Police, The Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Ambulance Victoria to discuss physiological responses to stress with a focus on neuropsychology and longer-term stressors.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Physiological and neuropsychological responses to stress
  • Unhelpful behaviours
  • Positive coping strategies.

    • Identify their own stress responses
    • Recognise helpful and unhelpful responses to stressors and crises
    • Identify positive coping mechanisms, engage with a short practice and develop an action plan for positive, ongoing change.

    Wellbeing Manager, Law Institute of Victoria

    As a clinically trained psychologist who has worked in both organisational and clinical roles, Megan has experience in providing psychological services to the public health and executive corporate sectors. Previous roles include a psychologist on a Psychiatric Crisis (CATT) team, Senior Psychologist and Manager of Clinical services for Victoria Police and as a manager in a professional services firm delivering coaching and facilitating executive leadership training to both private and public sector clients.

    Over the last 15 years Megan has managed her own consulting firm delivering psychological services to a variety of clients including as a clinical consultant to emergency services agencies (including Victoria Police, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Ambulance Victoria), the integrity units of the AFL, Tennis Australia and BHP, lecturing in Psychological Aspects of Hostage Negotiation for clients such as SERCO and WA Police and designing and delivering training for Child protection and Ambulance Victoria.

    Megan also has an interest in positive psychology, resilience and the use of strengths-based interventions in the workplace. She is a qualified yoga teacher who utilises her understanding of the interplay between the physiological and psychological to enhance wellness.

    Megan is a registered psychologist and associate member of the Australian Psychological Society. She is also trained in clinical hypnosis and has completed a positive psychology coaching course with Sydney University and well as an Executive Coaching course with the Institute of coaching and consulting psychology.
