  • Presenters

    Chair: Eu-Jin Teo, Barrister and Solicitor, Senior Academic, The University of Melbourne

    Eu-Jin Teo is a senior academic at The University of Melbourne and is a member of the LIV’s Administrative Law and Human Rights Section Executive Committee. A former Chair of the Institute’s Administrative Review and Constitutional Law Committee, his work has been cited in Parliament and by the High Court.

    Video 1 – Speaker: Tasman Ash Fleming, Barrister and Mediator (NMAS Accredited), Victorian Bar

    Tasman is a Barrister and Nationally Accredited Mediator at the Victorian Bar.

    Since obtaining the Lawyers’ Mediation Certificate in 2018 Tasman has focused on mediating disputes.

    Tasman is able to offer serious commercial and independent experience in all mediations including commercia, bankruptcy, property and wills and estates.

    Video 2 – Speaker: Amanda Carruthers, Barrister, Victorian Bar

    Amanda Carruthers is an experienced practitioner, who is briefed to appear and advise in all areas of commercial law and dispute resolution. Amanda is particularly skilled in areas involving personal or corporate insolvency and is regularly engaged by insolvency practitioners, creditors and directors in a broad spectrum of insolvency, restructure, and turnaround contexts. She appears led and unled in complex commercial disputes and public examinations, and is briefed to provide technical and strategic advice in related areas, such as shareholder oppression, voidable transactions, insolvent trading, breaches of directors’ duties, and matters involving partnerships, trusts, PPSA and other priority disputes. Amanda regularly appears in the Supreme, County, Federal and Federal Circuit Courts in Victoria and interstate. Amanda has published several journal articles relating to developing areas of law and practice and has for many years been an active member of ARITA, WIRV, and the Law Council of Australia’s Insolvency Reconstruction Committee.

    Video 3 – Speaker: Thanh Bui, Special Counsel, Minter Ellison

    Thanh is a special counsel in the professional indemnity insurance team at Minter Ellison. She has defended solicitors and barristers, on instructions from their professional indemnity insurer, since 2009 including in claims where the solicitors and barristers acted in commercial litigation. Thanh also acts for other professionals including construction professionals, accountants and mortgage brokers.

    Video 4 – Speaker: Michael Dolan, Special Counsel, Ethics and Professional Practice, Law Institute of Victoria

    Michael has had a long legal career spanning over 45 years, including 20 years as a senior executive in the electricity supply and mobile telephone industries in Australia and the UK.
