The Victorian Government introduced COVID-19 Omnibus (Emergency Measures) (Electronic Signing and Witnessing) Regulations 2020 on 12 May 2020.

The regulations temporarily amend the law of Victoria for the purpose of responding to the COVID-19 by modifying the Electronic Transactions (Victoria) Act 2000,Oaths and Affirmations Act 2019, Powers of Attorney Act 2014 and Wills Act 1997 to allow for electronic signing and witnessing by way of audiovisual link.

This video examines the objectives and practical implications of  of these regulations as they relate to electronic signatures and witnessing the signing of documents by audio visual links.

It is supported by an updated Practice Note and Guide on witnessing documents electronically and verification of identity.
