    Speaker 1: Kate Coffey, LIV Refugee Law Reform Committee Member

    Kate is a lawyer at AUM Lawyers. She started as a registered migration agent in 2010 and was admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in 2014. She assists clients with visa applications, appeal applications before the Administrative Appeal Tribunal Migration and Refugee Division as well as the General Division and Judicial Review Applications. Kate also assists with visa cancellation matters. Kate is a member of the Refugee Law Reform Committee and Family Violence Working Group of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Visa Cancellations Working Group.

    Speaker 2: Leah Perkins, Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Refugee Law Reform Committee Co-Chair

    Leah Perkins is a migration lawyer and accredited immigration law specialist. She has worked in migration and refugee law for over eight years, and is currently a managing associate at Carina Ford Immigration Lawyers in Melbourne. Leah is co-chair of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Refugee Law Reform Committee, and member of the LIV Family Violence Working Group and the Law Council of Australia’s Migration Committee.

    Leah represents clients in all migration matters including visa applications, tribunal reviews and judicial review with a focus on complex family migration issues, refugee and protection applications, family violence and cancellation matters.

    Speaker 3: Samantha Fitzsimons, LIV Migration Law Committee Co-Chair

    Samantha is the co-founder and principal, of Abode Migration Lawyers.

    Samantha was admitted to practice law in 2007. After working for an aviation lawyer in corporate law for a brief period, Samantha practised immigration law at Clothier Anderson Immigration Law for over five years.

    Currently Samantha is a co-chair of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Migration Law Committee, a member of the LIV Technology and Law Committee and a member of the Law Council of Australia. In May 2021 she was appointed to the LIV Family Violence Working Group. She has previously presented professional development seminars for the LIV, Leo Cussen, Legalwise and presented at the 2019 Law Council Immigration Law Conference.

    Prior to practising law, Samantha worked in international aid, primarily for World Vision Australia and then World Vision Ireland. She has lived and worked in Zimbabwe and travelled extensively throughout Africa. It was working in international aid that spurned Samantha’s desire to work with refugees albeit in a legal capacity.
