Seasonal Clerkship Recruitment Registry

In Victoria, seasonal clerkships are paid work experience opportunities at law firms. They typically run for 3-4 weeks during the summer and winter breaks, depending on the firm.

Firms prefer applications from penultimate year students i.e. those commencing their final semester in 2017 who are therefore eligible to commence as a graduate in 2018.

A number of firms are signatories to the LIV Seasonal Clerkship Guidelines which set out key dates for the seasonal clerkships application process. Application opening and closing dates are set by the LIV and each firm sets its own interview dates. More information.

Key dates in 2016:

  • Applications open no earlier than 9am Monday, 11 July 2016
  • Applications close no later than 11.59pm Sunday, 14 August 2016
  • Firms set their own interview period
  • Offers for seasonal clerkships made from 10am Tuesday, 11 October 2016
  • Offers remain open for a minimum period of 4 business hours from the time the offer is made or until 10am the next business day for offers made after 1pm
  • Students must not hold more than 4 offers for a period of more than 2 business hours

Students are encouraged to use this registry to review positions and gain information about the firms and organisations offering positions.

The 2016 Guidelines and current list of signatory firms are now available for downloading:
