A pro bono partnership between Gadens, Colin Biggers & Paisley and Women's Legal Service Victoria (WLSV) has been established to formulate legal policies aimed at tackling family violence.

A policy lawyer will be employed three days a week to expand the WLSV’s policy program. A key part of the role will be to contribute to the Royal Commission into Family Violence.

WLSV CEO Joanna Fletcher said the lawyer would increase capacity to do policy work by more than 60 per cent at a critical time for achieving change in family violence. “WLSV is funded by federal and state government grants, however we currently face an uncertain funding climate. Pro bono support provides a much needed resource for WLSV to continue and extend its policy work at this critical time.”

Gadens Melbourne CEO Grant Scott-Hayward said the WLSV played a vital role in allowing community members facing financial hardship to access the legal system.

“WLSV does an excellent job in this area, and it is a privilege for us to be able to partner and support them,” Mr Scott-Hayward said, adding the firm had a responsibility to help.

“Our privileged professional standing confers a responsibility to contribute to the general betterment of our community.”
