Royal commission recommendations

A taskforce of 14 legal and community groups that deal with family violence issues, including the LIV, has made 12 recommendations to the Royal Commission into Family Violence:

  • family violence court division expanded statewide;
  • review of family violence deaths in Victoria;
  • governance framework established for integrated response;
  • training for judges, court staff, lawyers and others to foster expertise in family violence;
  • integrated, monitored legal and non-legal responses;
  • shared understandings and practices including prioritising victim safety;
  • adequate funding to resource the system;
  • safe information sharing between agencies and jurisdictions;
  • behaviour change programs established;
  • coordinated response to risk;
  • co-located services where appropriate; and
  • courts to be accessible to victims, to reduce risk by effective management of court matters, to limit victim and perpetrator interaction and to offer safety services and programs.
