Recently retired County Court judge and former Law Institute president David Jones’ contribution to the law and the community was acknowledged at the Honorary Life Members’ Dinner held at The Windsor on 25 October.

Institute president David Faram said Mr Jones was an extremely progressive president of the Institute, and had led the charge in the formation of a legal aid commission, compulsory professional indemnity insurance and the establishment of the Institute’s Section network.

Mr Jones became the first solicitor ever to be appointed to the County Court, where he helped set up the Criminal Justice Enhancement Project.

“Your work has gone a considerable way to improving the efficiency of the whole criminal trial process. That is certainly a tremendous achievement by any standard,” Mr Faram said.
