Breast cancer survivor Cheryl Douglas has warned more than 60 women solicitors how important it is to be vigilant in safeguarding against the life-threatening disease.

Speaking at a joint Victorian Women Lawyers (VWL) and National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) event on 11 October, Ms Douglas gave a frank account of her journey through diagnosis, treatment and remission.

VWL convenor Justine Lau said the event, in National Breast Cancer Awareness month, aimed to raise awareness of breast cancer among women lawyers.

Peter Mac Familial Cancer Centre director Dr Gillian Mitchell and NBCF trustee and Melbourne committee CEO Sally Capp also spoke at the event.

The pair discussed the research and treatment developments for curing breast cancer, which is the most common cancer among women.
