Opening of the legal year 2014

The legal year opens in Melbourne on Monday 3 February 2014 with community events and church services.

Chief Justice Marilyn Warren and radio presenter Red Symons will be guest speakers at the Community Opening of the 2014 Legal Year held by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and supported by the LIV and others.

It will be hosted by president of the ICJ Victoria Justice Lex Lasry, in Waldron Hall at the County Court and will include morning tea (rsvp on 9607 9473 or register@liv.asn.au by 27 January).

An ecumenical service attended by the Governor of Victoria Alex Chernov will be held at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral at 9.30am. The judges will provide morning tea afterwards (rsvp nankivell@vicbar.com.au).

A Roman Catholic Red Mass will be held at St Patrick’s Cathedral at 9am (rsvp for morning tea lil@mcfarlanelegal.com.au).

There will be a service at the East Melbourne Synagogue at 9.30am.

The annual Victoria Law Foundation Legal Laneway Breakfast in Hardware Lane is on 5 February.

An ecumenical service will be held in Geelong on 13 January at the Salvation Army Citadel at 8.30am followed by a ceremonial sitting of the Supreme Court at 9.30am.
