A federal government program to increase compliance with the Child Support Scheme was expected to result in an additional $460 million of child support being collected, a Northern Suburbs Law Association meeting has been told.

Australian Government Solicitor’s Office senior lawyer Briana Kotzapavlidis spoke about significant changes to the Child Support Scheme which are being introduced over three stages, with the final changes coming into effect on 1 January next year.

About 60 people, including Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) president Geoff Provis and LIV CEO Mike Brett Young attended the meeting at the Veneto Club in Bulleen on 11 April.

Another speaker was barrister Sharon Keeling who detailed recent developments in the law of negligence.

Those who attended the evening earned two continuing professional development units.
