The LIV congratulates the members of the legal profession who were recipients of 2014 Australia Day honours. From Victoria they include:

Brian John Doyle Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the community through roles with philanthropic, education and health research organisations, and to the law. Lawyer from 1963-2009; Mentor, Law School Mentor Program, University of Melbourne since 2009.

Peter Ross Gray Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the judiciary through the Federal Court of Australia, to legal education, and as a mentor. Judge, Federal Court of Australia from 1984 until his retirement in 2013 (areas of involvement included industrial, labour and migration law); Current mentor, Indigenous Mentoring Program.

Peter John Jopling QC Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to the law in Victoria and to the community. Queens Counsel Victorian Bar since 1980; Chair, Victorian Board of Examiners 2003, member (pro bono) since 2000; Director, Legal Services Board Victoria since 2010; Director (pro bono) Melbourne Business School 2009-2013.

Justice Stephen William Kaye Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the law and to the judiciary, particularly in the area of Indigenous social justice and cultural awareness. Judge, Supreme Court of Victoria since 2003; Chair, Judicial Officers Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Committee since 2007.

Dr Ross Alan Sundberg QC Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the law as a judge, reporter and educator. Judge, Federal Court of Australia 1995-2010; Life governor, Haileybury School since 2008.

Major General Justice Richard Ross Tracey RFD Member (AM) in the military division of the Order of Australia for service in the field of military law, as a consultant for the Director of Army Legal Services, and as Judge Advocate General of the Australian Defence Force.

Adrian Gibson Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to the arts, to agriculture, and to the Parliament of Australia. Lawyer admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania and High Court of Australia; Member, House of Representatives, Parliament of Australia 1964-1969.

Gregory Bruce (Greg) Byrne Public Service Medal (PSM) for public service to the community in the area of criminal law.
