New franchising code seminar

Briefs

Cite as: May 2015 89 (5) LIJ, p.16

Experts will explain significant changes to the new Franchising Code of Conduct at an LIV seminar on 27 May.

The new code, which came into force on 1 January this year, now requires the franchisor and franchisee to act in good faith.

The Legal Practitioners Liability Committee (LPLC) has advised that the good faith obligation, which cannot be limited or excluded in the franchise agreement, will apply during pre-contractual negotiations and resolution of disputes in addition to the terms of the franchise relationship.

Norton Rose partner Stephen Giles and senior associate Nick Rimington will run the session. Mr Giles has served on the board of the Franchise Council of Australia for more than 12 years.

In the session, worth 1 CPD point, the speakers will explain how to advise franchisor clients under the new code.

To register call the LIV on 9607 9473.
