Solicitors take the cup

Gowns were swapped for guernseys and the courtroom for an oval as solicitors and barristers battled it out over four quarters for bragging rights and the 2012 edition of the Frank Galbally Cup.

The annual grudge match has now been played seven times, with the solicitors taking the chocolates on four occasions.

The Sunday July 29 event, held at Visy Park, could have gone either way with the barristers leading at half-time under the tutelage of former Collingwood premiership player Gavin Crosisca but, after some inspiring words from their coach, VFL legend Des Tuddenham, the solicitors (right) emerged victorious by a slender five points.

Like any epic legal joust, the game was played in good spirits, but it was also highly competitive with no players shirking any contests on the day. The event raised $32,000 for Reclink (www.reclink.org) a charitable organisation whose mission is to provide sport and arts activities to enhance the lives of people experiencing disadvantage.
