LIV Legal Fun Run & Walk

Each year, hundred of legal professionals and the wider community participate in the 8km or 4km walk or run of the Tan Track and enjoy some fresh air and exercise, while taking in the beautiful surrounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

People of all ages and fitness levels can register as individuals or teams of three. There will be prizes and a delicious post-run barbecue. Those who do not participate can still join in on the festivities and register to attend as a spectator to cheer on their friends and colleagues from the sidelines, then tuck into the barbecue with the group after the run.

  • Can I register family and friends who are not LIV members as a walkers on my team?

    Yes. As we do not require additional personal information, we can add non-members as walkers on your team.

  • Can I register multiple people as individual participants?

    Yes. Simply go to the register page and you will find the “Add a new registrant” button at the top of the page.

  • How do I register a running team?

    When you log on to the website, tick the “team registration box” maximum three – if you have more than one team per firm, you will need to complete the registration for the first team and then start a new registration for the second and subsequent teams.

  • What happens if I want to change my event or provide a substitute for my entry?

    Please call 9607 9473 to make any changes to your registration. To have a substitute attend in your place please notify the LIV in writing at before 5pm on Monday 11 November.

  • How do I make payment for the event?

    Once you have completed the online registration form, you will be redirected to the shopping cart to complete payment via credit card at the end the transaction.

  • How do I know if my registration has been received and processed?

    You will receive a confirmation via your registered email address. If you do not receive an automated confirmation, please contact

  • What happens if I want to cancel my registration and obtain a refund?

    Registrations cancelled prior to the commencement of the activity will not be refunded. A substitute attendee will be accepted provided written notification is given to the LIV at prior to the commencement of an activity. The full CPD/Events Terms and Conditions can be viewed on our website.

  • What time should I arrive?

    The registration table will open at 5pm. All participants are encourage to arrive early so they have enough time to sign in and collect their bibs, BBQ voucher and complimentary bottle of water from the registration table. Runners should then make their way to the start line in time for their 6.05pm start. Walkers start at 6.20pm.

  • Where do I collect my BBQ voucher?

    BBQ vouchers will be attached to each bib and can be collected upon registration. There is one voucher per person and it can be redeemed at the BBQ area on Lawn 7 (see map).

  • Where do I collect my race bib and timing piece?

    Collect these items on the day of the event at the Royal Botanic Gardens. They will be available from 5pm at the registration area, which will be located on Lawn 7 Botanic Gardens (near the St Gerorge V Monument, refer to our map for details). Simply line up in the queue that indicates the first letter of your surname.

  • Can I take my child with me?

    Children under 10 can attend as a spectator for free, however, there is a $30 charge if you would like them to receive a BBQ voucher.

  • Will I be able to get my results on the day?

    Only runners will be timed. We are able to announce the winners of the race categories on the day. Full results will be available on this website by 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.

  • Where can I leave my clothing or bag?

    There will be a marquee and areas set aside for those wishing to leave a clothing bag while they are participating in the event. Please note: Leaving your bag under the marquee is at your own risk; do not leave valuables in your bag. The LIV does not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items.

  • Where can I get changed?

    Changing facilities will be available at the public restrooms located near the registration marquee.

  • Why don’t you serve alcohol at the event anymore?

    The LIV Legal Fun Run & Walk is an initiative to promote health and wellbeing and as such no alcohol will be served.

  • What safety information do I need to know about?

    During the event:

    For safety reasons, no dogs, bicycles or rollerblades are permitted at the event. Pushers and strollers carrying young children are allowed and it’s asked that they be kept to the right hand side of the course.

    For the safety of the walkers, we ask that you not walk more than two abreast and to keep to the right of the path. 
    Because we are using public pathways and footpaths, please be mindful of other people not participating in the event and also be aware that you may encounter bike riders on the paths.

    Coming to and leaving the event:

    For your own personal safety reasons, please cross all roads leading to the track by pedestrian crossing and traffic lights only.

  • Which charity is the Legal Fun Run & Walk Supporting?

    A portion of the proceeds raised by the Legal Fun Run & Walk will support Black Dog Institute, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by poor mental health. 

  • What happens if the temperature is very high on race day?

    Please assume that the race will be going ahead unless you are informed otherwise by the race organisers. You will have the option to substitute your category from Run to Walk and the race organisers may make alterations to the Run or Walk track. Please arrive early if you wish to make any changes.

  • What happens if it rains?

    The Fun Run will go on, rain or shine. We have ideal conditions for the past few years, but if the weather decides not to cooperate, we will have additional marquees on hand ensure spectators and the barbecue remains dry.

  • What are the terms and conditions of entry?
    1. Registrations must be made online at
    2. You may enter as an individual for the run or walk, and/or part of a team of three if you are participating in the 8km run. Please note: There are no teams for the walk or the 4km run.
    3. Runners may only be a member of one team. All running team entrants will also qualify as individual entrants.
    4. Running teams can be of mixed or the same sex and must consist of:
      • three people of any age and from any other legal group (including legal recruiters, students, court staff, etc).
    5. The finishing time for each running team will be the total of each team member’s individual times.
    6. The organiser’s decision on prizes is final.
