Workplace Relations Section Objectives

The Section’s objectives are to:

  • To further the objectives of the LIV;
  • To simulate the interests and participation of workplace relation lawyers in the activities of the LIV;
  • To represent the widest possible cross-section of practitioners in the area of workplace relations law;
  • To develop and conduct educational programs for lawyers and the community in matters concerning the law relating to workplace relations;
  • To foster high standards in the practice of workplace relations law;
  • To conduct research programs and prepare reports for the Council; and
  • Promote the better understanding of workplace relations issues affecting the legal profession.

How to Join the Workplace Relations Section

All LIV members are entitled to join the Workplace Relations Section.

This can be done by logging into the LIV website (using your user name and password), clicking on the tab at the top of the page which has your name on it, then at the top of the page selecting the "My LIV Profile" tab and clicking on "Membership" from the dropdown options.

You will then be able to join the Workplace Relations Law Section by selecting the “Workplace Relations” option and then clicking ‘save’ at the bottom of the page.

By joining the Workplace Relations Law Section, you will receive tailored information regarding Workplace Relations Law and activities of the Workplace Relations Law Section, as well as being able to attend and vote at the Workplace Relations Law Section AGM. Joining the Workplace Relations Law Section is also a prerequisite for joining any of the Section’s committees. For information regarding the Section’s committees, please see below.

Section Committees

The Workplace Relations Law Section currently has the following committees and working groups:

  • Workplace Relations Executive Committee
  • Workplace Relations Employment and Industrial Relations Law Committee

Workplace Relations Section Executive Committee

The LIV’s Workplace Relations Section has an Executive Committee that sets the overall agenda and policy direction for the Workplace Relations Section and works to ensure the objectives of the Workplace Section are met.<

Workplace Relations Employment and Industrial Relations Committee

The key objectives of the Employment and Industrial Relations Committee are to consider law reform and any workplace laws, provide consultation to the government as a key stakeholder and to provide information and resources to practitioners working in employment law and industrial relations law. In addition, the Committee shares the objectives of the Executive Committee.
