LIV Mentoring 2017

LIV Mentoring 2017

By Claudia Margach

The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) recognises the important role that mentor’s play in the professional growth and development of their fellow members of the legal profession.

In 2017, the LIV will be launching several  new mentoring initiatives.

Matched Mentoring Program:

Applications are now open for members who hold a current Victorian Practising Certificate and have at least five (5) years’ experience to become Mentors in the program, and from Members who hold a current Victorian Practising Certificate, and who have between 3 – 5 years post admission experience who would like to become Mentees.

The program is set to run from March 2017 and December 2017, and will cost $250 (inc GST) for Mentees.  Mentors are volunteers.

Applications are open until 15th February 2017.  If you would like to apply, please follow this link.

Judicial Mentoring Program:

The Judicial Mentoring Program falls under the auspices of LIV Young Lawyers. This program provides a forum within which law graduates and new solicitors (1-2 years PAE) can meet with a member of the judiciary to discuss their experiences within the legal profession and their future careers in the law.

The Judicial Mentoring program will run April to November and is free for qualified participants. Applications to join the program close Friday, 3 March 2017.

The Buddy Project:

The Buddy Project is also an initiative of LIV Young Lawyers that looks to pair YL members (new solicitors with three to five years of post-admission experience) with students (penultimate and final year) and non-attached graduates.

The Project is an informal mentoring program linking law students and recent graduates with new solicitors to assist in developing networks and professional skills to enhance their career in the law.

The program provides law students with a direct connection to the legal profession as well as one-on-one guidance for career planning.
Mentors will benefit through the opportunity to share their experiences with mentees.

There is no fee associated with this program, and it will run April 2017 to March 2018. Applications to join the program close Friday, 3 March 2017.
