New chapter for LIV library

Boasting a new location, modern facilities and online remote lending services, the LIV law library is starting a new chapter.

As winners of the Australian Law Librarian Association’s 2018 Legal Information Service of the Year award, LIV law librarians Josie Cox, Tasia Mitsinikos and Renata Mason are the go-to people for legal information. And with the recent move to 140 Williams street, they are even better placed to help LIV members find the information they need.

The LIV library is home to an extensive collection of legal texts and material, and provides a wide range of research services to LIV members. Located on level 13, the new library is a light-filled space that retains the quiet, respectful atmosphere of the previous premises.

“It’s a fantastic place for LIV members to conduct research or just come in and work in a free, quiet place” says law librarian Tasia Mitsinikos.

“We are seeing a lot of new faces and first-time borrowers, some of whom never knew the LIV even had a library.

“That’s the beauty of the design of the new library, it’s easily accessible,” she said.

This focus on accessibility is reflected in the wide range of complimentary online resources for LIV members, with remote lending services helping regional and sole practitioners access information with a click of their mouse.

LIV members have exclusive access to the following digital library resources:

Lexis Red Digital loans

Previously only available in hard copy, LIV members can now access Lexis Red Digital loose-leaf items for a short-term loan (free for applicable members). 24 titles are currently available online, with more titles added regularly. To view the full range and request a short-term loan, click here.

CCH and LexisNexis eBooks can be accessed for a short-term loan anywhere, anytime, on your preferred mobile or desktop device. More information here.

Law Institute Journal archives

Access all your favourite LIJ articles from 2002 onwards from the LIV law library’s LIJ online archives here.

The LIV law library opening hours have also been extended to 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday, as an added convenience for LIV members returning items before and after hours.
