The LIV has identified 104 ways to help deliver access to justice for Victorians including online dispute resolution, contingency fees, legal expense insurance and fixed prices. A number of recommendations relate to the role and functions of VCAT, including a fee review and fee waiver in certain lists, greater duty lawyer support and more resources for self-represented litigants. The LIV made the recommendations in its submission to the Department of Justice and Regulation’s review in March. LIV president Steven Sapountsis said the justice system is inaccessible to many Victorians, especially low and middle income earners.
