What do law societies around the country say about some of the most important issues facing the legal profession today? We asked the CEOs in the first of a two-part series. What do you see as the pros or cons of a national legal profession? Vic. A national brand and identity and reputation is essential for intensification of our trade as lawyers with Asia. It’s about national consistency, it’s about Lawyers Australia Inc. Having said that, any national regulation scheme has to accommodate local differences and mutual recognition. The danger with this is that overarching regulation can become an additional layer of red tape. NSW. A national system benefits the entire legal profession – practitioners in small, medium and large firms as well those working in-house in corporate and government practice. It builds an environment in which national and even international borders are overcome as hindrances to efficiency and effective practising conditions.
