Practising certificate renewal for 2019-2020. Renew by 30 April. The Legal Services Board has upgraded LSB Online to make it mobile friendly. It is now time to apply to renew your practising certificate if you intend to continue to practise from 1 July this year. All current practising certificates will expire on 30 June 2019. So The Legal Services Board has upgraded LSB Online to make it mobile friendly. It is now time to apply to renew your practising certificate if you intend to continue to practise from 1 July this year. All current practising certificates will expire on 30 June 2019. So if you intend to continue to practise beyond this date, you must apply to renew your certificate. Even if you only obtained your practising certificate in the last few months, you must still apply by 30 June if you wish to practise in 2019-20. You can now renew on your mobile device To make it easier for you to renew, or to change your details, LSB Online has been upgraded to make it mobile friendly. You can now log in and apply to renew your certificate using your phone, iPad or other tablet computer. You can also download your practising certificate directly from the system. Simply visit the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner’s website at www.lsbc.vic.gov.au, click on the green LSB Online button and follow the prompts. You will also need your VLSBC-issued practitioner number to log in to LSB Online. This number was included in the email sent to you by the VLSBC on 18 March 2019. Apply to renew by 30 April to avoid a surcharge You can save money by applying early. If you apply to renew before 30 April, you will avoid the surcharge that is applied to late applications. If you wait to complete your renewal in May, there is a 25 per cent surcharge. This increases to 50 per cent for all applications completed in June. Apply to renew by 30 June or you will not have a current practising certificate If you let your current practising certificate expire at 30 June without applying for a 2019-20 certificate, then it is too late to apply to renew. Your practising certificate will expire, and if you want to apply for a new one you will have to apply for the grant of a new certificate before you can engage in legal practice. It is not possible to backdate the new certificate to cover any period after 30 June, if you apply after that date. Further, applications made between 1 July and 30 September attract a 200 per cent surcharge. Be sure to complete your application Your application to renew will only be valid after all fees have been paid, and you have also paid your professional indemnity insurance (if required). However, if a valid application is made before your previous certificate expires, even if it has not been decided by 30 June, you will still be able to practise while the decision is pending. However, if you have not made a valid application that is not the case. So it is crucial that you make your application before the end of June, and preferably by 30 April. Trust and continuing professional development (CPD) requirements If you are authorised to receive trust money, you will also be required to fulfil any outstanding trust audit obligations before a decision can be made on your application. The same applies where your CPD obligations have not been met. Not renewing? If you do not intend to renew your practising certificate, please complete the “Not renewing my practising certificate” form in LSB Online by 30 April. If you are closing your trust account and/or law practice, please also let the VLSBC know. Further information and assistance? If you need help, please visit the LSB website. There you will find access to LSB Online and other information and ways to ask for further information.
