Bridging the gender gap

Bridging the gender gap

By Silvana Marasco

Discrimination Women's Rights Workplace

It’s time to eliminate unconscious bias in workplace decisions. Attrition rates of women at senior levels in the law continue to be an issue for the legal profession in Australia. Research has shown that there are financial and economic benefits associated with a gender diverse workforce, yet women are still under-represented particularly at partnership levels. Unconscious bias in workplace decision making has been found to be one of the key drivers of attrition of women from the law. It is imperative that all members of the legal profession have an understanding of this issue so that workplace practices can be better managed in order to redress and improve the gender gap occurring at senior levels of the law.
