In_sites 1800Respect When you see a client who is stressed and vulnerable, it is helpful to know the resources available to them. 1800Respect is for people who are experiencing sexual assault or domestic violence. The site provides information on telephone and online counselling for the victims, family and friends wanting to help. There is also a legal section page for professionals outlining points on good practice and policing. Victorian Small Business Commissioner The Victorian Small Business Commissioner is a statutory office established in 2003 to assist small and medium-sized businesses in Victoria with disputes. It provides information on resolving disputes between businesses, not-for-profits and local or state government entities. There are useful information sheets and guides as well as the latest news and events including free webinars. The VSBC can appoint mediators under specific Victorian legislation. ACCC – Country of origin With a new country of origin food labelling system commencing under the Australian Consumer Law on 1 July 2016, it is important to understand what the changes mean for businesses. The ACCC pages explain, in particular, the difference between the new “made in”, “product of” and “grown in” labels as well as an explanation of how the logos and symbols should appear. There are also links on matters such as false and misleading claims and the revised Food Standard Code. Food Standards Australia New Zealand – Food Standard Code The Food Standards Australia New Zealand site provides information about the revised Food Standard Code that came into effect on 1 March 2016. The notices relating to the Code are published in the Food Standards Gazette and are registered as a Federal Legislative Instrument in Australia. There are links to the historical gazette notices as well as information for anyone who would like to apply to have the Code changed, including details on how to make a submission. health.vic – Medicinal cannabis The Access to Medicinal Cannabis Act 2015 (Vic) passed the Victorian parliament in April 2016 and will enable patients in exceptional circumstances to gain access to medicinal cannabis products. The initial group of patients will have access to the products in early 2017. This site provides an overview of the recent law reform with further links to the Victorian Law Reform Commission report that instigated the changes as well as information on the government cultivation trial and the status of manufacturing licenses. Department of Justice and Regulation, Victoria – Justice of the Peace If you want to locate a Justice of the Peace to witness and certify documents, go to the Victorian Department of Justice and Regulation website. The database allows you to locate a document signing station, including relevant police stations and libraries, or you can conduct a search by postcode, suburb, surname or languages spoken.
