Submissions Greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets 2021-2030 review Pursuant to the Climate Change Act 2017 (Vic), an independent advisory panel was established to set the interim greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for Victoria for the years 2021-25 and 2026-30. The LIV’s submission to the panel commended the Victorian government for being the first Australian state to introduce a state climate change act. The LIV noted that improvements to be gained from considering the targets holistically with other measures included expanding standing requirements in climate change litigation to better facilitate intergenerational equity and setting minimum standards for data used in environmental assessment. The LIV reiterated its call for national leadership on climate change through ground up, Commonwealth-led reform of Australia’s environmental law and climate change framework.
