Now is the ideal time to focus on building positive wellbeing in the year ahead. In 2018, Victorian Women Lawyers (VWL) introduced a new initiative focused on wellbeing and resilience building for female practitioners called The Wellbeing Series. We learned that while members of the legal profession recognise that their peers suffer significantly lower levels of psychological health and wellbeing than workers in other industries,1 there cannot be sustainable positive change in a workplace culture that normalises and rewards unrealistic and unhealthy practices, and as such, a unified cultural change is required.
