There is still much to be done to achieve gender equality in the legal profession. Women first outnumbered men across Australia’s legal profession in 2016. For the first time in Victoria, practising female lawyers now outnumber practising male lawyers. According to Legal Services Board chair Fiona Bennett, the number of practising female lawyers has been increasing by 3 per cent annually – double that of males. Figures from as far back as the late 1990s show the number of women entering the profession being consistently higher than the number of men.1
