Submissions Costs disclosure thresholds under Uniform Law The LIV responded to the Legal Services Council’s request for views on the possible revision of costs disclosure thresholds contained in the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014. The LSC provided a list of possible threshold options and the LIV submitted that increasing the lower costs disclosure threshold from $750 to $1500 and having a new upper threshold of $5000 was its preferred option. The LIV submitted that there were currently sufficient consumer protections for consumers whose costs were estimated to be $1500 or less and that lawyers would need to comply with the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules in providing frank disclosure to clients regarding costs.
