Complaints to the regulator reveal a lot about the challenges for family lawyers. Statistics show that family law is more likely to receive a complaint than any other area of law. Lawyers who work in family law face their own particular set of challenges. Complaints made to the Victorian Legal Services Commissioner tell us a lot about these challenges. No lawyer likes to receive a complaint. Dealing with it takes you away from the business of running your practice, causes stress and upset, and can leave you with an unhappy client who might give you a bad review. By looking at complaints in detail, we can pinpoint common challenges and suggest ways for family lawyers to reduce the risk of receiving one.
