LIV welcomes Courts’ announcement to undertake training on family violence cases

By LIV Media

Chair of the Executive of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Nicky Neville-Jones welcomes the recent announcement from the Federal Circuit and Family Courts in response to the increasing level of family violence, that staff will be undertaking further training to better address the issue.

On Wednesday 21 April, the Courts announced it would be engaging in internationally recognised training developed by Safe & Together Institute to undertake family violence focused training, as part of its response to address the issue.

The Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia and Chief Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, the Hon Will Alstergren explained that this training is one of many initiatives of the Courts that are aimed at providing safer family law outcomes.

Ms Nicky Neville-Jones said the LIV welcomes the steps taken by the Courts to further improve its ability to resolve family law disputes.

“This initiative, coupled with other recent announcements and new programs introduced by the Courts, including The Lighthouse Project, will provide stronger foundations so that the mistreated and the vulnerable can be even more supported as they navigate the Court system,” said Ms Neville-Jones.
