The essential legal podcast guide

The essential legal podcast guide

By LIV President Belinda Wilson

The essential legal Podcast guide

The commute to work seems to be just that bit harder in winter. Packed trams and trains (I would mention buses, but they always appear to be empty), commuters coughing and sneezing, personal space a luxury, and the temperature fluctuating between arctic and subtropical.

My answer: put the headphones on as you walk out the front door and immerse yourself in the land of podcasts. Here are some of my favourites for the legal profession:

  • Lawyer by Day is a podcast very close to my heart as it discovers lawyers’ hidden stories. Scratch beneath that legal surface of any of your fellow lawyers, and you are sure to find some hidden talent, incredible story or an entrepreneurial business on the side. Mark Tyndall fits into the above categories extremely well, being a lawyer at a top tier law firm by day and a talented storyteller/discoverer on the weekends.
  • Compos Mentis encourages lawyers to have authentic discussions about health and wellbeing. It gives tips to know that you are not alone on this journey, explores many topics that you may not usually talk about, and guides you through how to be happy and healthy while working in the law, all thanks to the bold conversations of Jennifer Lim and Natalie Campbell – friends and colleagues who met working as associates at the Federal Court of Australia.
  • Happy Lawyer, Happy Life – Each week Clarissa Rayward, The Happy Family Lawyer and brain child behind how to have a happy divorce, chats to different guests, gaining an insight into a different section of the profession. Can a lawyer live a happy life? If anyone knows, Clarissa does, with tools to help you on your journey from podcasts, blogs, a book and coaching.

If you have any podcasts to share with me, I’d love to hear from you.
