How to teach your local MP about the legal system

How to teach your local MP about the legal system

By Katie Miller

Justice Leadership

For many of us, becoming a lawyer was a way to make a positive difference to people’s lives. This often means helping people when they are at their most stressed, in crisis, with a problem that needs solving. We are great at helping individual clients and through the volunteer work at the LIV and CLCs, advocating for systemic change. But sometimes, an individual approach to systemic change is needed. What does that mean? Sometimes the way to achieve systemic change is to persuade individual Members of Parliament who will vote on the changes. Woah, you say. Speak to my local MP? That's not what lawyers do - that's what *hushed tones* lobbyists do!
